I am sitting here at my kitchen table watching the snow come down and my dear Allie Mae dig a hole in my yard.  This is going to be a long winter.  I want to be outside working in my garden, going for a walk with Allie in the woods.  Anything but looking at the snow covered fields.

The seed catalogs have started arriving in the mail and this just makes me even more anxious for winter to get over with.  It will give me time to research how to keep Allie out of my gardens this summer though.  It might take that long to teach her not to dig.  My plants are not going to have a chance this summer.  I can see it now.  I’ll have everything planted and she will come along and dig everything up.  I see a fenced in garden happening.

With this anticipation for summer to get here, I’ve posted a recipe for one of my favorite casseroles.  I hope you like it.

Oh you do have a fun summer ahead. We had a golden retriever for years ago and I lost more plants than I care to remember. I have a raised bed garden. The hardest part was when the seedlings are out. After most things got large she would stay out.

One day though when she was about 2, she completely ruined a bed of begonias. It was a hot day in August and I had a bed of begonias that were about 6′x3′. They were really big and bushy, cool and damp from the early morning dew. She had been running around and was hot when she spotted those cool begonias and before I knew it they were flattened! There she was all spread out in the middle of them. I couldn’t get mad at her and to this day the memory makes me smile.

Now I have these silly small dogs (rat terriers) that I can’t keep out of anything. In desperation I have made domed chicken wire covers for things that are small. I anchor them in the ground with stakes. They like to eat flowers. They don’t like to get their feet in the grass so they run through the flower beds and pulverizer the mulch. It’ crazy what we will do for our pets. You have a beautiful dog there though!

I’ve been getting the seed catalogs too. It’s a sure sign spring will get here!

Thanks Lynn, We’ll do lunch soon. I’ll get ahold of you when things start to slow down at work again.

Melanie- As much as I know it’s going to be a fight this summer, I just can’t wait for it to start. I love being outside with all of my pets. I need to get Miss Allie used to the cows though. My husband took her out today to see the cows and had to carry her all the way back home because she was scared. The big chicken. She’s not turning out to much of a cow dog. But I love her all the same. She makes me laugh everyday.
