has always been one of my favorite cooking magazines. What a surprise it was to me when the June/July issue featured Gluten Free recipes. Many of their recipes are gluten free or can easily be converted but this was advertised Gluten Free. Now they have a
Gluten Free Zone on their website with over 450 members. What a wonderful service.

Triumph Dining’s is giving away American Gluten-Free Dining Cards until the end of August to raise money for Celiac Disease awareness, called the $10k Challenge. There’s absolutely no purchase necessary. Your can simply visit http://www.triumphdining.com/freediningcard.aspx to participate and get a free dining card.
The purpose of this give-away is to raise money for Celiac Disease Awareness. If they get 15,000 people to sign up for free dining cards, Triumph Dining will make a $10,000 donation in support of a national celiac disease awareness campaign. When they hit their goal, they’ll ask the gluten free community to help them decide which non-profit(s) receives the donation.
They are trying to build awareness on two fronts: With 15,000 more dining cards on the street, they’ll be educating more restaurants about the gluten free diet faster. And, with $10,000 funding behind a national campaign, they can diagnose and educate more Celiacs.
The free dining card offer is available at http://www.triumphdining.com/freediningcard.aspx and they will be posting regular progress reports on their blog at http://blog.triumphdining.com.
Pass the word.

Broccoli from my garden…
Today I took 3 big, beautiful heads of Broccoli out of my garden. It was just a few years ago you would never have gotten me to eat broccoli. Now I can’t get enough of it. And I don’t want it smothered in cheese, yuck. I was it fresh and steamed. It has such a wonderful fresh taste. I love it. This was the first time I have every attempted to grow it. There’s nothing to it and it will now be a staple in our garden. Now I have to decide what to do with it. I’m craving my broccoli salad that I make this time of the year.
I thought this would be the perfect time to see what everyone else is making with their broccoli. Here is a short list, I know that I am missing a lot of posts out that are out there. If you have one that you would like me to add to this list please let me know.
Elana’s- Pasta with Broccoli
Carrie’s- A Southern Girls Vegetable Curry
Seamaiden’s- Pesto Broccoli Potato Croquette’s
Rachel’s- Broccoli Salad a la Grecque
Kbabe- Pasta Primavera with Grilled Chicken Breast

Ginger

Who would of thought that Allie getting car sick would turn out to be a wonderful discovery for me. When Allie was younger I could not take her anywhere in the car without her throwing up. After some research I discovered that Ginger is perfect for dogs. I would give her a couple of tablets before we traveled and there would be no messes. I though hey if it works on her why wouldn’t it work on me when my stomach is upset. It was the best discovery. My only drawback is that I can not take it before I go to sleep.
Some of the benefits of Ginger are:
- Helps digest fatty foods and breaks down proteins
- Reduces gas
- Relieves nausea (morning sickness and motion sickness)
- Helps neutralize the acids that cause nausea, cramps and even diarrhea
- Reduces inflammation (Is used to help treat arthritis & ulcerative colitis)
Recent studies have even suggested that is has a role in lowering LDL cholesterol because it helps reduce the amount of cholesterol the body absorbs.
Ginger is a warming herb. It helps stimulate circulation of the blood and helps relax muscles around the blood vessels and is said to help prevent blood clots from forming. The warming effects make it a natural decongestant as well as an antihistamine, making it the perfect remedy for colds.

I’m Back…
I’m sorry I have been gone for so long. I had my hand surgery. I had a ganglion cyst removed from my right hand, again. It was just 3 years ago when it was taken off. This time it had grown through my hand at a very fast rate. It is gone once again and my hand is almost back to normal. Let’s hope that it doesn’t come back. Gary was absolutely wonderful this time around helping me out, he is even doing massage therapy on my scar for me. I can’t stand to touch it, it turns my stomach right around.
Allie is growing by leaps and bounds. She is one today. I think I’ll get her a cupcake on Thursday and have a small party for her. I bought her some toys and left them in the bag but the little brat found them and was playing with them. We been working with her in the water but she just doesn’t seem brave enough to swim. Is there a trick to get your dogs to swim? This is the first dog we have ever had so I’m new to all of this. She’s just so gentle, maybe I have babied her too much. Gary tried to get her to kill a snake the other night and she wanted to just smell it instead. I’m sorry but I want my dog to kill snakes. Ughh. We don’t see them very often but sometimes in the fields after he mows them they come along. I scream and run the other way when I see them, I would love to have my pup go kill them for me. So I wouldn’t have to worry about them.

I have finally started cooking again. I’m sure that Gary is happy about that. I made these beautiful ribs on the 4th. Oh they were so good. It was the first time I had ever made them. They were so easy and came out perfect. I just seasoned them with salt and pepper, drizzled olive oil on them and baked them in the oven at 225 for 3 hours and then put them on the grill and basted them with gluten free bbq sauce. I used one from Kraft. They were messy, your ribs should be messy with bbq sauce. That’s one of the things that makes them so good.

I have a lot of new recipes that I want to try, I wish my garden would go a tad bit faster. Have several new zucchini recipes, but I haven’t been able to find any fresh yet. As soon as I do, there will be wonderful recipes posted.
