Who would of thought that Allie getting car sick would turn out to be a wonderful discovery for me. When Allie was younger I could not take her anywhere in the car without her throwing up. After some research I discovered that Ginger is perfect for dogs. I would give her a couple of tablets before we traveled and there would be no messes. I though hey if it works on her why wouldn’t it work on me when my stomach is upset. It was the best discovery. My only drawback is that I can not take it before I go to sleep.
Some of the benefits of Ginger are:
- Helps digest fatty foods and breaks down proteins
- Reduces gas
- Relieves nausea (morning sickness and motion sickness)
- Helps neutralize the acids that cause nausea, cramps and even diarrhea
- Reduces inflammation (Is used to help treat arthritis & ulcerative colitis)
Recent studies have even suggested that is has a role in lowering LDL cholesterol because it helps reduce the amount of cholesterol the body absorbs.
Ginger is a warming herb. It helps stimulate circulation of the blood and helps relax muscles around the blood vessels and is said to help prevent blood clots from forming. The warming effects make it a natural decongestant as well as an antihistamine, making it the perfect remedy for colds.

I’m sorry I have been gone for so long. I had my hand surgery. I had a ganglion cyst removed from my right hand, again. It was just 3 years ago when it was taken off. This time it had grown through my hand at a very fast rate. It is gone once again and my hand is almost back to normal. Let’s hope that it doesn’t come back. Gary was absolutely wonderful this time around helping me out, he is even doing massage therapy on my scar for me. I can’t stand to touch it, it turns my stomach right around.
Allie is growing by leaps and bounds. She is one today. I think I’ll get her a cupcake on Thursday and have a small party for her. I bought her some toys and left them in the bag but the little brat found them and was playing with them. We been working with her in the water but she just doesn’t seem brave enough to swim. Is there a trick to get your dogs to swim? This is the first dog we have ever had so I’m new to all of this. She’s just so gentle, maybe I have babied her too much. Gary tried to get her to kill a snake the other night and she wanted to just smell it instead. I’m sorry but I want my dog to kill snakes. Ughh. We don’t see them very often but sometimes in the fields after he mows them they come along. I scream and run the other way when I see them, I would love to have my pup go kill them for me. So I wouldn’t have to worry about them.

I have finally started cooking again. I’m sure that Gary is happy about that. I made these beautiful ribs on the 4th. Oh they were so good. It was the first time I had ever made them. They were so easy and came out perfect. I just seasoned them with salt and pepper, drizzled olive oil on them and baked them in the oven at 225 for 3 hours and then put them on the grill and basted them with gluten free bbq sauce. I used one from Kraft. They were messy, your ribs should be messy with bbq sauce. That’s one of the things that makes them so good.

I have a lot of new recipes that I want to try, I wish my garden would go a tad bit faster. Have several new zucchini recipes, but I haven’t been able to find any fresh yet. As soon as I do, there will be wonderful recipes posted.

I can’t believe that it’s May 8th and I still have not posted anything this month, but then again I can only think of two meals that I have made. They weren’t anything special. Tonight we had tacos and I think the last time was pork chops on the grill with some parsley potatoes. I’m off the next four days and we have so many tasks planned I probably won’t make anything special this week either. I’m in a serious slump. I think it’s the weather. It seems like every time mother natures wants to rain I get a serious sinus headache that knocks me out. Since I don’t have any recipes to share I thought I would share some new pictures of the family. I hope you enjoy them.

Do you have it yet? Why not? Go get it. This is a must have book. When I first received this book, I thought to myself. Is this really going to be useful to me? Where I live we have no restaurants that are gluten free in any way. Well ok maybe Burger King but that doesn’t count.
But then I started looking through it and realized that this really is a must have. This is how I found out about
Bugabook Creek. That in itself make this book a must have for me. Next month Gary and I are planning a trip to Louisville, Kentucky and this is definately going with us. The big question is going to be “Which one of these restaurants are we going to try?” I even discovered a gluten free bakery in Huntsville, Alabama that I wish I would have know about last summer when I was there.
Another thing that I like about this book is in the end of the book there are gluten free lists and restaurants for a good many of the restaurants listed. This way you don’t even have to go to far to research. It’s all there.
Not sure where to buy this? Well that’s easy they have a new website just go to their new
website. This is a cool new site that is must have for your favorites. Not only can you buy there products, but they also have food reviews, restaurant information and much, much more. Check it out for yourself, you won’t be disappointed.

If you follow me on
Twitter, you probably already know that I made some bread on Saturday night and had a few problems. I was craving pumpkin bread and remembered that on my recent trip
Lori’s I picked up some Pumpkin Bread by Anna. I was hesitate to try it. I can be a very picky eater but I have to tell you, this was wonderful. This was a good as mom’s. It had a wonderful moist texture. Gary could not even tell it was gluten free. This is definitely going to be a staple in my kitchen.
Next time… I think I will put it in muffin pans and mix up some cream cheese or maple frosting. Yumm!!
